Exports of Greek Virgin Olive Oil -22.78% in Q1 2012
According to data issued from the Hellenic Statistical Authority and processed by the Hellenic Foreign Trade Board, Greek exports of Virgin Olive Oil experienced a sharp decrease in Q1 of 2012 compared with the same period last year.
As it is clearly shown on the graph the ELEONES team prepared, the exports of Greek Virgin Olive Oil reached in value 56.543.640 EUR in value compared with 73.226.540 EUR in Q1 of 2011. It is reminded that the Halkdiki region of Greece experienced a decrease of about 50% in total quantities produced for the 2011/12 harvest due to the freezing weather of March 2011.
In volume the total Greek Virgin Olive Oil exports reached 22.389 tonnes in Q1 2012 compared with 31.123 tonnes in Q1 2011.
Italy remains the number one destination of Greek Virgin Olive Oil exports with 71.98% of the total volume exported! Following Italy is Germany with 4.83% and the USA with 4.26%.
Italian companies are using Greek Virgin and Extra Virgin Olive Oil to blend and “upgrade” their own olive oils that are then sold around the world most of the times labeled as Italian olive oils.
