Photos from the olive groves of Halkidiki on Thursday 22nd of March.
The Mariana tower just next to the olive groves where we get the olives for the ELEONES Early Harvest. The tower was built on this small hill in 1374 by Mt Athos monks in order to guard the estate owned by the Mt Athos monastery of Doxeiarion during the Byzantine times. The estate produced excellent quality olives since the Byzantine times. Unfortunately this is what remains of the tower today. The ruins are about 12m high. If you ever get the chance to approach the tower you will notice marble pieces built in the walls that were taken from ancient Greek temples of the area just to help with construction.
Spring is our favourite time of the year for our area.
