2013/14 Halkidiki olive harvest one of the worst in years
This year’s olive harvest is one of the worst in more than 20 years for the Halkidiki region. Following the record harvest of 2012/13 which was the best in more than 30 years, nature seems to keep everything balanced!
According to ELEONES’ team estimations the 2013/14 Halkidiki harvest will be approximately 30-40% of what the 2012/13 harvest was.
The harvesting period is ongoing and it is expected to be completed sooner than any other year.
Due to the extremely small harvest, Halkidiki olive and olive oil producer prices are on the rise.
The only counterbalancing factor to this sharp increase in Halkidiki olive and olive oil prices is expected to be the large production of Spain for this season. Spanish production due to its size is a decisive factor shaping global olive oil and olive prices.
