ELEONES Early Harvest officially a Protected Destination of Origin product
After more than seven years of waiting, the European Union issued regulation 581/2013 that grants P.D.O. (Protected Destination of Origin) status to the Halkidiki Early Harvest Extra Virgin Olive Oil.
The original application was filed to the relative European Union departments back in March 2006 by Halkidiki region officials.
The application went through many different stages of examination and had to overcome many obstacles, often put in place by other olive oil producing regions of Greece and other European Union countries.
The P.D.O. status includes the use of the words “Agoureleo Chalkidikis” meaning Early Harvest Extra Virgin Olive Oil from Halkidiki in Greek.
The ELEONES Early Harvest was produced all these years under the P.D.O. requirements maintaining a higher level of quality than the rest of olive oils produced in the Halkidiki region.
Now with the official recognition of the European Union the ELEONES team is racing against time to complete all necessary paperwork with the Greek authorities in order for the new 2013/14 harvest ELEONES Early Harvest to bear the P.D.O. status.
The new harvest for the ELEONES Early Harvest is just a few weeks away.
